About the Author
Dr Clive Handler BSc, MD, MRCP, FACC, FESC is an Honorary Consultant in the National Pulmonary Hypertension Unit at The Royal Free Hospital, London and Consultant Cardiologist at Highgate Hospital, London. He was previously Consultant Cardiologist at Northwick Park and St Marya (TM)s Hospitals, London. He trained at Guya (TM)s Hospital Medical School and at St Lukea (TM)s Hospital Milwaukee, University of Wisconsin. His textbook "Cardiology in Primary Care," was published by Radcliffe Publishing in 2004. He co-edited "Classic Papers in Coronary Angioplasty" with Dr Michael Cleman from Yale University Medical School (Springer) and edited "Guya (TM)s Hospital a" 250 years" in 1975. His forthcoming books include "Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in Primary Care" and Management of Cardiac Problems in Primary Care" (both written with Dr Gerry Coghlan and published by Radcliffe Publishing) and is co-editor of "Vascular Complications in Human Disease: mechanisms and consequences" (Springer). His has written numerous scientific papers.
Dr Gerry Coghlan MD, FRCP is Consultant Cardiologist and Director of the National Pulmonary Hypertension Unit at the Royal Free Hospital. He trained in Dublin and at Harefield and the Royal Free Hospitals. He is an international authority on Pulmonary Hypertension but has wide interests in all aspects of the management of coronary heart disease and angioplasty. He has written several books with Dr Clive Handler as well as scientific papers on pulmonary hypertension and other aspects of cardiology.
Steven R. Smith, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Smith is a trained child and adolescent psychotherapist and has extensive experience in both assessment research and practice. He completed his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Arkansas before internship and postdoctoral training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. After training, he remained on staff at Massachusetts General Hospital as a child psychotherapist and consultation neuropsychologist.
As a young researcher, Dr. Smith has amassed a number of publications related to behavioral, neuropsychological, and personality assessment. In 2001, he was awarded the Walter Klopfer award from the Society for Personality Assessment for outstanding contribution to the empirical literature. SPA presented him the Anne and Samuel Beck Award for outstanding early career research in personality assessment for 2005. He has recently developed a model of collaborative (therapeutic) neuropsychological assessment and much of his current work explores the relationship between traditional personality assessment and neuropsychology.
Leonard Handler, Ph.D., ABAP is Professor and Associate Director of the Clinical Training Program at the University of Tennessee. Over the past 40 years he has taught assessment to almost 900 graduate students and is a frequent contributor to various clinical journals, especially "Journal of Personality Assessment." Dr. Handler is on the Editorial Board of "JPA"; he is co-editor of the Case Study Section of the Journal. He has been a member of two APAcommittees that deal with assessment, and has been the recipient of awards for his research from the University and from the Tennessee Psychological Association. He also served as Director of the University of Tennessee Psychological Clinic. Dr. Handler is Past-President of the Society for Personality Assessment, co-editor of a text on assessment, "Teaching and Learning Personality Assessment," and is completing a text on therapeutic assessment for children and adolescents for Lawrence Erlbaum Associates. He is a fellow of APA, in Division 12, Division of Clinical Psychology. Dr. Handler holds Diplomate status with the American Board of Assessment Psychology.
