Review
“When people ask me to recommend great zombie fiction one of the names I consistently mention is John L. Campbell. Nobody writes an urban battle scene quite like he does. The pace of his storytelling will leave you breathless, and his characters are so real and so likeable you will jump up and cheer for them. Omega Days is, hands down, one of the shining stars of the zombie genre. Do yourself a favor and move this one to the top of your to-be-read pile right now. You can thank me later.”—Joe McKinney, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Savage Dead and Dead City
“An impressively convincing vision of a world suddenly gone insane…The maelstrom that Campbell creates is a somber portrayal of the human capacity for both selfishness and, more rarely, altruism. He effectively builds a mood of terror that sweeps the reader along in this powerful example of zombie thriller genre at its best.”—Publishers Weekly
"A highly entertaining read with a style that grabbed me from the very first page...There are creepy echoes…of masters like Koontz and King…If you want highly entertaining, escapist, zombie fiction with plenty of action peopled by rich and interesting characters, you couldn't do better than Omega Days."—SF Revu

Top Shelf Zombie Novel - but only a half serving.
By Alan Wilson
Omega Days is easily one of the better novels in the American Humans vs Zombie sandpit. It's a stand out Big Yes! in the sea of mediocre writing which unfortunately colors much of this genre.
Campbell's writing is crisply constructed, imaginative and fast-paced. His ability to draw this reviewer in and keep him there right from page one was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the author's descriptive grip on a modern urban landscape (primarily Oakland CA) overrun with "head shots only" infected aka 'drifters' with bottomless appetites for live human food. The story clips along at a hand gallop; this was fast read that I finished within a very short time - perhaps no more than six hours tops.
Character development is generally well-crafted and the story is populated with a somewhat over-inflated number of instantly recognizable B-grade American Hollywooders: action-guns mom, spunky teen chick, perverted televangelist (one of my favs), troubled priest, noble Russian chopper pilot, motor-cyclin' lone author, and anti-hero jail break convict with a huge supporting cast of side-kicks and creeps of various stripes (TC is another cool Fresh Prince of Evil gifted with a break-out potential role - I hope he graduates to marquee billing). On the down side, the book is relatively short, meaning each leading figure (apart from Troubled Priest and couple of others ) gets only cursory backstory construction.
The biggest drawback, and why I did not give it 5-stars, is that the buyer is only getting half (perhaps a quarter) of a book. The story is just starting to hit its straps when the bell rings, the book slams into a brick wall - and stops dead.
Personally I'd rather spend ten bucks and get the whole work rather than pay $2.99 for a Kindle download giving me a collection of short chapters that do nothing more than introduce the characters and describe their first few adjustments to the Zombie Apocalypse. Maybe someone thought this is smart 'teaser' marketing; if so, be advised this reviewer is faintly chipped off. It's like getting Jane Austen to mention the arrival of Mr D'Arcy and then wrapping it up with a "stay tuned" announcement. Crass bad manners me thinks.

Hunger For More...
By Keith Haney
I am a recent convert to the horror genre in general and zombie works in specific. After consuming a full season of The Walking Dead on Netflix, I was hungry for more. Omega Days is a page turner. It wastes no time in getting to the meat of the action. This well crafted, well researched tale takes the reader on a tour of the bay area as it turns from a bustling city to a stony graveyard awash with the dead. The diverse characters, rich with their own history, are a colorful cross section of America. It is not too often I find myself huddled with a book and my phone set on Do Not Disturb. I devoured the pages of this book as hungrily as the zombies between the pages devour the city by the bay. As one who normally jumps right to the 1 star review to see how good or bad something is, I hesitated to give this book a 5 star rating, as it might go unread as a fanboy fluff review. My only real gripe about the book is the way it ends. Not to say that it is a bad ending, but be prepared to pine away for how ever many months it takes the author to crank out the next book in the series (which had better be soon). If you are still reading my review at this point just click the Buy Now button and begin your voyage into something special, dark, and filled with the grist of the human experience. See you on the other side of the Omega Virus. Travel light, keep moving and carry as much ammo as you can and still clear the fences.

A gem in a sea of trash
By Kindle Customer
Excellent book for its genre. It came as a particular relief to find that it is well edited, wth few grammar and punctuation errors-these can be very jarring, interrrupting the natural flow, albeit with sometimes comic relief. The author created well-rounded, generally likeable characters. I was disappointed by the (seemingly inevitable) appearances of the ever present evil preacher and evil criminals. But I have hope that the author will deal with these one-dimensional cliches in a believable manner. I was impressed by his Dickensian touch of throwing out seemingly unrelated plot threads, only to start to draw them together in a relatively believable manner towards the end. Congratulations to the author-you've managed to impress me favorably, and I await your next installment with hopeful anticipation.
