Good story as to what happens after they are taken by the Indians.

Really enjoyed this read. Family History involved with us. I liked the way P. Gifford wrote this as historical and biological too. I hope John had it as easy as in this book. It was a terrible thing all around Groton at that time.

Great reading

As one of possibly thousands of Longley descendants, I have known of the bare bones story of the capture and eventual return from the Indians of John Longley, but this book, with its companion, "Captured", made the story come alive. I would recommend it to anyone, whether or not a descendant, who loves historical fiction and wants to learn more about the French-Indian wars in the late 1600's and early 1700's. They're hard to put down once started.

Longley family story

I am a descendant of the Longley family of Groton, MA so this book was a very special read for me. The story was well written and had a lot of supporting information about the colonial era and difficulties between the Indians and English that really helped me understand the times. The author fleshed out the characters very well. It had some very suspenseful moments that had me on the edge of my seat.
